Previous posts included 15 years as Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College of Sciences, Medicine & Technology, London and Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Despite his teaching, research and administrative commitments, he maintains an active clinical involvement performing more than 100 PCI per year with special interest in the treatment of calcified lesions, chronic total occlusions, bifurcations, and diffuse disease. He is a regular TAVI operator and certified implanter for the Medtronic Evolut R and Edwards Sapien 3 transcatheter aortic valves. He participated in more than 160 MitraClip implantations in London and Florence and has recently started direct annuloplasty with the CardioBand. He was Principal Investigator of the DESTINI trial, using Doppler CRF to identify lesions in need of stenting, and of the CARESS in AMI trial, a large multicentre trial showing that patients who receive fibrinolytic therapy for ST-elevation myocardial infarction benefit from early angioplasty. This trial and a subsequent meta-analysis have led to a change in the European Society of Cardiology and AHA/ACC Guidelines for treatment of STEMI patients. He cooperated with Dr Davies to the validation of iFR to assess lesion severity and discriminate the contribution of individual lesions, and with Dr Lyon in the intracoronary delivery of SERCA-2 genes via adenoviral vectors in the CUPID2 trial.

Associate Professor Nigel Jepson BMed Sci, MB BS, FRACP, FCSANZ, FSCAI is Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at the Eastern Heart Clinic and Director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the Prince of Wales Public Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He holds the position of Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales. Associate Professor Jepson trained in Tasmania and completed clinical and cardiac interventional training at Harefield Hospital in London and the Eastern Heart Clinic in Sydney. He is a high volume interventionalist, practicing over the last 20 years with a specific interest in bifurcation and left main-stem disease, new stent technology and intra- coronary imaging. Niels van Royen is an interventional cardiologist and Head of Department of Cardiology at the Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He has a background in pre-clinical research and is head of a research group on translational research in repair mechanisms in ischemic heart disease. Also he is principal investigator of several multi-center clinical trials like the TRANSIENT, COACT, REDUCE-MVI and iMODERN. These trials focus on timing of interventional procedures as well as the use of intra-coronary physiology to guide interventional procedures both in stable coronary artery disease as well as acute coronary syndromes.

Dr Nieves Gonzalo is Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Interventional Cardiology Department at Clinico San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid. She obtained her Specialist Certification in Cardiology after training at Clinico San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid. Subsequently, she underwent a research fellowship at Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands) under the supervision of Professor Patrick Serruys, focused mainly in intracoronary imaging and bioabsorbable stents. In 2010 she obtained her PhD with the thesis “Optical coherence tomography for the assessment of coronary atherosclerosis and vessel response after stent implantation”. Her track record includes over 170 articles indexed in PubMed, as well as book chapters in Interventional Cardiology textbooks. Recent research projects as principal investigator includes a study about the assessment of neoatherosclerosis and its clinical impact in patients with restenosis (RIBS IV and V OCT substudy) and research regarding vessel injury and healing evaluation with different stent platforms evaluated with OCT (VISTA study). Dr Gonzalo is a dedicated educationalist with involvement in many areas of complex PCI, serving currently as Deputy Editor for Eurointervention and Committee Member of EuroPCR.

Dr. Bon-kwon Koo is a professor of Seoul National University, director of cardiovascular center and chair in Cardiology Division of Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, Korea. Dr. Koo graduated Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea and was a visiting scholar at Stanford University previously and worked with Professor Peter J Fitzgerald and Professor William Fearon. Dr. Koo is an interventional cardiologist and his main research interest is imaging and physiology of coronary artery disease. Dr. Koo is a principal investigator of many domestic and international studies. He has published more than 400 papers in major journals. He was a course director of TCT-AP and is a course co-director of ENCORE course. He has performed series of studies on bifurcation lesions and coronary physiology/imaging which provided important insights in this field. His recent researches on non-invasive hemodynamic assessment using coronary CT angiography and computational fluid dynamics enables the assessment of FFR without invasive procedures and has started a new chapter in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. Dr Nieves Gonzalo is Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Interventional Cardiology Department at Clinico San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid. She obtained her Specialist Certification in Cardiology after training at Clinico San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid. Subsequently, she underwent a research fellowship at Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands) under the supervision of Professor Patrick Serruys, focused mainly in intracoronary imaging and bioabsorbable stents. In 2010 she obtained her PhD with the thesis “Optical coherence tomography for the assessment of coronary atherosclerosis and vessel response after stent implantation”. Her track record includes over 170 articles indexed in PubMed, as well as book chapters in Interventional Cardiology textbooks. Recent research projects as principal investigator includes a study about the assessment of neoatherosclerosis and its clinical impact in patients with restenosis (RIBS IV and V OCT substudy) and research regarding vessel injury and healing evaluation with different stent platforms evaluated with OCT (VISTA study). Dr Gonzalo is a dedicated educationalist with involvement in many areas of complex PCI, serving currently as Deputy Editor for Eurointervention and Committee Member of EuroPCR.

Dr. Kern is Chief of Medicine, VA Long Beach Health Care System, Professor of Medicine, University California, Irvine. He continues to perform and teach cardiac catheterization and PCI. Dr. Kern is ABIM Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology and is a past president and now a Master Fellow of the SCAI. His research interests in coronary blood flow, intravascular physiology, intravascular ultrasound, vulnerable plaque and evaluation of cardiovascular hemodynamics. He has authored several textbooks, notably The Cardiac Catheterization Handbook, 6th ed. and its companion The Interventional Cardiac Cath Handbook, 4th ed.

Carlo Di Mario is Professor of Cardiology at the University of Florence and Director of the Structural 
Interventional Cardiology Division of the University Hospital Careggi, Florence, Italy. Previous posts included 15 years as Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College of Sciences, Medicine & Technology, London and Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Despite his teaching, research and administrative commitments, he maintains an active clinical involvement performing more than 100 PCI per year with special interest in the treatment of calcified lesions, chronic total occlusions, bifurcations, and diffuse disease. He is a regular TAVI operator and certified implanter for the Medtronic Evolut R and Edwards Sapien 3 transcatheter aortic valves. He participated in more than 160 MitraClip implantations in London and Florence and has recently started direct annuloplasty with the CardioBand. Professor Di Mario pioneered the use of intracoronary Doppler, pressure measurement, intravascular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, and near infrared spectroscopy. He was PI of the OPTICUS trial, failing to demonstrate superiority of IVUS guided stenting, and of the Lipid Rich Plaque study, due to report at TCT 2018. He was Principal Investigator of the DESTINI trial, using Doppler CRF to identify lesions in need of stenting, and of the CARESS in AMI trial, a large multicentre trial showing that patients who receive fibrinolytic therapy for ST-elevation myocardial infarction benefit from early angioplasty. This trial and a subsequent meta-analysis have led to a change in the European Society of Cardiology and AHA/ACC Guidelines for treatment of STEMI patients. He cooperated with Dr Davies to the validation of iFR to assess lesion severity and discriminate the contribution of individual lesions, and with Dr Lyon in the intracoronary delivery of SERCA-2 genes via adenoviral vectors in the CUPID2 trial.

Prof Andrew Sharp qualified from Edinburgh Medical School in 1998 and is Professor of Cardiology at the University Hospital of Wales and Cardiff University in the U.K. He conducted his early training at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, before moving to London for his senior clinical training. He completed the prestigious Milan-Imperial Interventional Cardiology Fellowship programme, having spent a year in San Raffaele and Columbus Hospitals, Milan, Italy, under the tutelage of Professor Antonio Colombo. He also spent three years training in interventional cardiology at Imperial College Hospitals in London. Prof Sharp was awarded an MD postgraduate research degree from the University of Edinburgh for his work on the hypertensive heart and his research interests include intracoronary imaging and physiology. as well as the use of device-based treatments for hypertension and pulmonary embolism.

Dr Habib Samady is an interventional cardiologist and serves as President of the Georgia Heart Institute, the heart and vascular program of Northeast Georgia Health System. He is also Director of the Georgia Center for Cardiovascular Biomechanics and Modeling and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Emory University. Dr Samady is recognized as one of the foremost international experts in coronary physiology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Sheffield in England, and completed his residency training in both London and in Sheffield. He subsequently completed an internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of Connecticut, before his fellowship in general cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and interventional cardiology at Yale University in Connecticut.

Manesh Patel is the Chief of the Division of Cardiology and the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. His clinical interests include diagnostic and interventional coronary angiography, peripheral angiography and endovascular intervention. His is involved in several clinical trials involving patients with cardiovascular disease and in cardiac imaging. He is also the Chair of the American College of Cardiology Task Force for Appropriate Use Criteria for Cardiovascular Procedures and is Chair of the American Heart Association Diagnostic and Interventional Cath Committee. Patel's interest in cardiac imaging, quality of care, cardiac devices is also evident in his research. His integration of these efforts into his roles at Duke was recognized in 2010 when he received the prestigious Duke Cardiology Fellowship Mentor Award. In 2011, Dr. Patel was named the endowed John Bush Simpson Assistant Professor of Cardiology. In 2013, Dr. Patel received the Robert M. Califf Faculty clinical research Award. Currently, Dr. Patel is leading an effort to redesign the delivery of care to patients undergoing invasive catheterization procedures in the health system with a specific aim of measure and providing individualized, patient centered, innovative, and efficient care.
