Dr Peter O’Kane graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School in 1995 with First Class Honours Bachelor of Science BSc degree in Physiology, Medical Degree and numerous prizes including the Llewelyn Prize for the second-best distinction in medical finals. After attaining membership of the Royal College of Physicians he was subsequently awarded a Doctorate of Medicine by the University of London for a thesis on the role of nitric oxide in coronary heart disease. Dr O’Kane was appointed as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in July 2007. He has performed over 7000 PCI procedures as a Consultant. He routinely treats extensively calcified lesions, bifurcations including left main stem disease & chronic total occlusions. He is committed to teaching & education with local fellowship training program through to national & international proctorship of techniques & multiple adjunctive devices. He has trained Consultant colleagues from the UK, Europe, Asia & USA through local workshops and courses. He is regularly invited as faculty to National & International meetings as a presenter & live case operator. He has published over 70 manuscripts and authored 10 book chapters. He is a local principal Investigator for over 30 National & International multi-centre clinical trials & is dedicated to patient recruitment with over 900 patients recruited to trials he has managed. He has led numerous quality improvement programs, is PCI Lead, Cardiology Governance and Mortality Lead & has achieved National Bronze Clinical Excellence Award level 9. He was a nationally elected member to British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) Council (2020-2023) and from March 2023 is a member of BCIS Research Working Group.

Prof. Byrne graduated from University College Dublin, Ireland and completed his PhD in Medical Life Science and Technology at the Technical University Munich, Germany. Research awards received include the ESC Atherothrombosis Research Fellowship (2008), the TCT Thomas J. Linnemeier Young Investigator Award (2009) and the Andreas Grüntzig Research Prize of the German Cardiac Society (2016). Leadership roles include Deputy Editor at EuroIntervention and board member of EAPCI and Chair of its Patient Initiatives Committee.

Tim is a consultant interventional cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. He trained in London, Vancouver and Washington, DC before settling in South Wales. His clinical interests include interventional pharmacology, complex PCI and radial access. His research interests include optimising complex PCI outcomes, complications of PCI, anti-platelet and anticoagulation therapy, access site and outcomes, and mega-database analysis. He is an Honorary Professor at Keele University, and a previous recipient of a Welsh Government Research Time Award. He is a member of the BCIS R&D Group, the NICOR Research Approval Group, and a member of the National Cardiovascular Research Network for Wales. He is currently a committee member of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee and a previous member the Technology Appraisal Committee.

Prof Kunadian is a Professor of Interventional Cardiology holding a Personal Chair at Newcastle University and Honorary Academic Consultant Interventional Cardiologist Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Prof Kunadian has an international reputation in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular research, making her a sought-after and respected speaker at prominent national and international meetings. She has championed diversity in her specialty as a role model; only 5% of interventional cardiologist are female in the UK, <1% are clinical academics/researchers and only female interventional cardiologist holding a University Personal Chair. She is also recipient of the UK Department of Health National Clinical Excellence Bronze Award. She is UK Chief Investigator in many multicentre clinical trials with major grant awards including from the British Heart Foundation. She has published >180 peer reviewed publications in major journals. She is UK’s 1st female to be appointed as the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Research and Development Working Group lead. She has been chosen by the British Heart Foundation as their panel member for the Bias and Biology Campaign addressing the disparity of care among female patients with heart disease. She was the Chair/Lead author on the ESC/EAPCI Consensus document on INOCA which has raised the awareness of this condition worldwide. She has campaigned on the national media including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and newspapers to improve the care of patients with heart disease in particular women and heart disease. She is one of the commissioners on the Lancet Commission to reduce the global burden of heart disease in women by 2030. She was awarded Winner of the UK Times and the Sunday Times We Are The City Rising Star Award for 2018. In 2022 she was nominated for the British Heart Foundation Heart Hero Research Engagement Award. She was also nominated for the 2023 Northern Power Women Awards- Disruptor Good Category.
