Stavros V Konstantinides

Dr. Konstantinides is Professor for Clinical Trials and Deputy Scientific Director of the multidisciplinary Centre for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (CTH) at the University of Mainz, Germany, which focuses on patient care and translational research. Also Professor of Cardiology at the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, he graduated from Medical School of the Aristotle University, Thessalonica, Greece, and completed his clinical training in cardiology and defended his thesis at the University of Freiburg, Germany. He has worked as consultant cardiologist at the Universities of Freiburg and Goettingen, Germany, and as a research associate at the Department of Vascular Biology, the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA. His research focuses on basic mechanisms of thrombosis and on the risk stratification and antithrombotic management of venous thromboembolism. He has published over 160 papers in peer-reviewed journals and was principal investigator of several national and international multicenter trials.

Dr. Konstantinides currently heads the European Society of Cardiology task force for the update of the Guidelines on the Management of Acute Pulmonary Embolism.
